USDA-accredited veterinarians can electronically issue health certificates and use VEHCS (Veterinary Export Health Certification System) to submit them to USDA for endorsement.

USDA must ink-sign and emboss the health certificate.

Live Animal Export Country Requirements

Summary of Requirements

All live animals, semen, and embryos that are required to undergo testing for specific animal diseases prior to export may be required by Taiwan law to have both a sample and test date listed on the health certificate.

Note: As of November 2018, during the pre-export quarantine all pigs shall require oral swabs for Senecavirus A (SVA ) RT-PCR testing with negative results before shipment to Taiwan.

Note: Taiwan considers Litopenaeus vannamei susceptible to the following pathogens of concern:

  • Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND)
  • Decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1)
  • Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP)
  • Infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis (IHHNV)
  • Infectious myonecrosis (IMNV)
  • Necrotising hepatopancreatitis (NHP)
  • Taura syndrome (TSV)
  • White spot disease (WSSV)
  • Yellow head disease (YHV)

Note: Complete item # II.2 on page 2 of the health certificate as follows: 

  • Check Box A if the animals meet the premises freedom level requirements for a given pathogen of concern, then list each of those pathogens below “Name of the disease which are under official surveillance complying with this condition” on the health certificate.
  • Check Box B if the animals meet the test and ship level requirements for a given pathogen of concern, then list each of those pathogens in the table under Box B. 
  • A given shipment can be certified using just Box A or Box B, or via a combination. For example, the animals could meet “Box A” requirements for 2 of 5 pathogens and “Box B” requirements for the remaining 3 of 5 pathogens.

If your species is not listed, the requirements for that species are not known. Exporters who want to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed above should have the importer or buyer in the destination country apply for an import permit at the appropriate ministry. This import permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
