USDA-accredited veterinarians can electronically issue health certificates and use VEHCS (Veterinary Export Health Certification System) to submit them to USDA for digital endorsement.

USDA can digitally endorse the health certificate and return it electronically.

Travel Requirements Based on Pet Type

  • This page provides the most recent entry requirements and can change without notice.
  • It is the responsibility of the veterinarian to make sure the pet has met all health requirements of the destination country before issuing a health certificate.
  • Failure to meet the requirements may result in problems gaining certificate endorsement or difficulties upon arrival in the destination country.
  • Health certificates must be legible, accurate, and complete.
     

General Process

  1. Have your animal micro-chipped with a brand accepted by the International Standards Organization (Standard 11784 or Annex A to standard 11785 with the ISO Standard Chip prior to the animal receiving a rabies vaccination.
  2. Animal must be vaccinated against rabies.
  3. Animal must have a rabies blood test (FAVN or RFFIT) done at least one (1) month after vaccination.  This test must be done at an approved laboratory, and Original Laboratory Results must sent directly via email by the Laboratory to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer at: aphmalmr@gmail.com
  4. Animals must be tested negative for Brucella canis.
  5. Animals must be treated for internal and external parasites prior to export.
  6. Names of all countries where the animal has resided for the six months prior to export must be provided on the health certificate.
  7. Apply to the Trinidad and Tobago Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer at aphmalmr@gmail.com for an import permit at least (1) one month in advance of your planned travel date, and ensure you have an import permit prior to entry.   8. An international health certificate must be issued by a USDA Accredited Veterinarian and endorsed by USDA within (7) days of arrival to Trinidad and Tobago.​ NOTE: If submitting the health certificate via the Veterinary Export Health Certificate System (VEHCS), you may proceed directly to VEHCS without downloading the form below.

  9. Notify the Veterinary Officer, Quarantine, Veterinary Services, telephone (868) 693-2910 and nadcaph2013@gmail.com at least two (2) working days before the scheduled time of arrival.

To take a pet bird (including psittacine) to Trinidad and Tobago, you must receive permission from their Wildlife Division. They will issue an approval which must be brought to the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine office in order for an import permit to be issued.

Agricultural County Offices are open to the public every Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, except public holidays. To find out what county office is responsible for your area, call the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries at (868) 622-1221-5.

For pet travel requirements not listed, APHIS has not been officially informed by the foreign country about the requirements for your pet’s travel. We recommend that you contact a government official of the country you are traveling to for more information.

ALERT: If you're traveling with a dog, be aware that the CDC has additional requirements for bringing a dog into the United States. You must follow CDC's requirements, or your dog will not be allowed to enter the United States. 

If you are transiting (passing through) the European Union:

If your pet is traveling through (transiting) a country in the European Union (EU) on the way to a third, non-EU country, you will also need a transit health certificate for your pet for the EU. The transit health certificate will be the same as if your pet’s final destination was the EU country.
