APHIS Seeks Comment on Draft Pest Risk Assessment for the Importation of Fresh Pineapple Fruit from Thailand into the United States for Consumption

In 2007, APHIS granted Thailand market access for fresh pineapple (Ananas comosus) fruit, subject to certain pest mitigation measures for four arthropod pests. These pests were recently reclassified as non-quarantine for the United States, and Thailand has requested APHIS to revisit our import requirements for the shipping of fresh pineapple fruits.

To address this request, APHIS prepared and is sharing a draft pest risk assessment to determine whether stakeholders have information that might lead us to revise the draft assessment before we identify pest mitigation measures and proceed with the commodity import approval process.

The draft pest risk assessment for fresh pineapple fruit from Thailand will be available for review and comment until midnight ET on March 20, 2025. To view the assessment or submit comments, please visit the APHIS Stakeholder Risk Assessment Consultation webpage.
