APHIS Seeks Public Comment on a Proposal To Allow Interstate Movement of Fresh Wasabi Leaves and Rhizomes for Consumption From Hawaii to the Continental United States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is seeking public comment on a proposal to authorize the interstate movement of fresh wasabi leaves and rhizomes (Eutrema japonicum (Miq.) Koidz.) for consumption from Hawaii to the continental United States. This proposal is based on the findings of a pest risk analysis, which supports allowing interstate movement with appropriate safeguards in place.

The notice and pest risk analysis will be available for public inspection in the Federal Register on October 15, 2026. Beginning on October 16, 2026, the documents will be open for public review and comment for 60 days, ending on December 15, 2026. To view the documents or submit comments, go to www.regulations.gov and enter APHIS-2025-0408 in the search field.
