Traceability helps establish a clear record of where a pig came from and where it went. U.S. SHIP Program Standards are based on best practices for effective traceability systems.

The U.S. SHIP traceability working group conducts demonstrations to test the viability and efficiency of potential modifications to the components of the traceability system, such as interfaces between recordkeeping applications and software providers.
