2021

U.S. SHIP pilot working groups create the first draft of U.S. SHIP pilot program standards.

28 States express an interest in participating in U.S. SHIP.

Fall 2021 inaugural U.S. SHIP House of Delegates meeting held on August 23 and 24 in Des Moines, IA.

Stakeholders debate and pass the first draft of U.S. SHIP pilot program standards—along with seven resolutions centered on biosecurity, traceability, and disease surveillance.

U.S. SHIP earns endorsements from national animal health and pork industry- related organizations. This encourages USDA to expand resource efforts—helping kick-start the pilot project.

2022

Participating States begin standing up their U.S. SHIP Official State Agencies.

The National Pork Board commits resources to U.S. SHIP working groups and research projects focused on improving the program standards.

Pilot working groups vet a number of topics and complete a series of project-based work.

U.S. SHIP Official State Agencies start enrolling participants.

Each participating State is assigned delegates for the second U.S. SHIP House of Delegates meeting.

The second U.S. SHIP House of Delegates meeting is held from September 6 to September 8 in Des Moines, IA.

2023

Additional States join U.S. SHIP, bringing the total up to 33 participating States.

The third U.S. SHIP House of Delegates meeting is held September 5 to September 7 in Bloomington, MN.

The pilot program begins transitioning from Iowa State University to USDA.

2024

Three additional states join U.S. SHIP, totaling 36 participating States.

The fourth annual U.S. SHIP House of Delegates meeting is held from September 3 to September 5 in Bloomington, MN.

USDA publishes the proposed rule for U.S. SHIP, which would codify it as a Federal animal health program

2025

Two more States join U.S. SHIP, bringing the total up to 38 participating States.
