APHIS invests $100 million in funding for innovative projects aimed at combating highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).

The selected projects advance prevention, therapeutics, vaccine development, and research to understand transmission and improve biosecurity. APHIS selected these projects through a competitive process, in consultation with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Recipients include vaccine manufacturers, universities, producer organizations, and other research partners.

No HPAI vaccine has been authorized for use at this time, except on a case-by-case basis in certain endangered or zoo species. APHIS will continue to assess promising candidates in coordination with HHS.
