USDA-accredited veterinarians can electronically issue health certificates and use VEHCS (Veterinary Export Health Certification System) to submit them to USDA for digital endorsement.

USDA can digitally endorse the health certificate and return it electronically.

Summary of Requirements

Note: General information for importing animals into Trinidad and Tobago: All animals imported into Trinidad and Tobago require an import permit per shipment. All other animals not covered below will also require import permits. The application can be completed via telephone, email or written. The cost for each permit is $10.00 TT dollars. All permits are valid for three months except for dogs and cats entering quarantine; these are valid for one month only.

Note: Effective April 24, 2024, Trinidad and Tobago will not accept live poultry shipments originating from or transiting through the 10km zone surrounding an HPAI detection. Regarding shipments of commodities for which certificates are under negotiation, exporters are advised to abide by the animal health standards as communicated via import permits issued by Trinidad & Tobago.

Note: Importation of wildlife, pet birds (including psittacine), ferrets, and hamsters requires permission from Wildlife Division, telephone +1-868-662-5114. They will issue an approval which must be brought to the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine Office in order for an import permit to be issued.

If your species is not listed, the requirements for that species are not known. Exporters who want to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed above should have the importer or buyer in the destination country apply for an import permit at the appropriate ministry. This import permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
