USDA-accredited veterinarians can electronically issue health certificates and use VEHCS (Veterinary Export Health Certification System) to submit them to USDA for endorsement.

USDA must ink-sign and emboss the health certificate.

Summary of Requirements

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Sierra Leone has confirmed acceptance of the VS Form 17-6, “Certificate for Poultry or Hatching Eggs for Export” for use in trade of U.S. origin poultry, hatching eggs and day-old chicks, with the addition of the following bilingual statement in section 13, “Remarks or Additional Information”:

  • The birds from which the poultry are derived were not raised or processed within a 10 km radius of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) / Les volailles de proviennent d’oiseaux qui n’ont pas été élevés ou traités dans un rayon de 10 km de foyer d’influenza aviaire hautement pathogène (IAHP).

If your species is not listed, the requirements for that species are not known. Exporters who want to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed above should have the importer or buyer in the destination country apply for an import permit at the appropriate ministry. This import permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
