Signs of Illness To Watch For
Keep an eye out for these signs of illness in your flock. If you notice sudden or significant changes in any of these areas, report it right away.
Unexpected Deaths
- Sudden death
- An increase in bird deaths
Behavioral Changes
- Lack of energy
- Lack of appetite
Egg Production Changes
- Decreased egg production
- Soft-shelled or misshapen eggs
Differences in Physical Appearance
- Swelling of the head, neck, eyelids, comb, wattles, or shanks
- Purple discoloration of the wattles, comb, or legs
Respiratory Problems
- Gasping for air (difficulty breathing)
- Nasal discharge (runny nose)
- Sneezing
Movement or Balance Issues
- Stumbling or falling down
- Twisting of the head and neck (torticollis)
Digestive Changes
- Greenish, watery diarrhea
