Export Live Animals to Egypt

Last Modified: August 20, 2024

Electronic Signature ACCEPTED; Original Ink Endorsement REQUIRED

For Accredited Veterinarians: Electronic signature ACCEPTED

For APHIS VMO: Original ink endorsement REQUIRED

USDA-accredited veterinarians can electronically issue health certificates and use VEHCS (Veterinary Export Health Certification System) to submit them to USDA for endorsement.

USDA must ink-sign and emboss the health certificate.

Summary of Requirements

Note: The Egyptian General Organization of Veterinary Service (GOVS) will allow the import of one-day old poultry and hatchery eggs from zones (county level in case of the United States) or countries free from poultry diseases (specifically, HPAI).  This poultry must come from parent flocks that are free of avian influenza antibodies.  (June 2016)

For all U.S. origin day-old poultry and hatching eggs, the following statement must be included on the VS Form 17-6 (937.87 KB), under item 13:

“The day-old birds/hatching eggs originated from a county free from avian influenza”

All shipments of hatching eggs and day-old chicks destined to Egypt that transit the European Union (EU), are required by the EU to have APHIS-endorsed EU export veterinary health certificates accompany the shipment.

Note: GOVS confirms that U.S. origin poultry do not need to be certified against atomic radiation, as the United States is not designated by Egypt as a high-risk atomic radiation origin, nor is it listed in any of the Egyptian regulating Ministerial resolutions.

If your species is not listed, the requirements for that species are not known. Exporters who want to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed above should have the importer or buyer in the destination country apply for an import permit at the appropriate ministry. This import permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
