USDA-accredited veterinarians can electronically issue health certificates and use VEHCS (Veterinary Export Health Certification System) to submit them to USDA for digital endorsement.

USDA can digitally endorse the health certificate and return it electronically.

Summary of Requirements

Note: Cattle and water buffalo from the United States are currently banned due to a risk of BSE (January 2004).  

Note: Commercial swine and swine semen from the United States are currently banned due to a risk of porcine reproduction and respiratory syndrome.

    • Note: ***Important Notice: Under U.S. code of Federal Regulations 9 Part 91, swine (including pets) are considered livestock and must be inspected by USDA APHIS at the port of embarkation within 48 hours of departure. This is an additional inspection to the inspection performed by the USDA Accredited Veterinarian as listed in statement 14 on the certificate. All pet swine exported to Argentina are permanently prohibited reentry to the United States.***

APHIS Registered Aquaculture Export Facility approval is required for Salmonids and Salmonid Ova.

If your species is not listed, the requirements for that species are not known. Exporters who want to ship livestock or germplasm whose requirements are not listed above should have the importer or buyer in the destination country apply for an import permit at the appropriate ministry. This import permit will most likely outline the specific requirements.
