Postentry Quarantine

Last Modified: October 01, 2024

Postentry quarantine is a pest risk mitigation measure designed to enable importers to move planting stock representing a high risk of plant pest dissemination from designated foreign sources into the United States.

The regulations for postentry quarantine are specified in 7 CFR 319.37-23. All requirements for postentry quarantine are located in the Plants for Planting Manual.

Final destination of the postentry taxa is limited to those States with a Postentry Quarantine Agreement.

The length of the quarantine period is generally two years with exceptions for some plant species as specified in the Plants for Planting Manual.
