APHIS Announces Finding of No Significant Impact to Control Giant African Snail in Lee and Pasco Counties in Florida
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Decision for the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) entitled “Giant African Snail Cooperative Eradication Program in Lee and Pasco Counties, Florida.”
The giant African snail (Lissachatina fulica) is a potentially devastating invasive species to agriculture, ornamental plants, and other resources. Based on the analysis contained in the EA and two comments received during the public comment period, APHIS has decided to implement the Preferred Alternative snail eradication.
The FONSI/Decision was signed August 16, 2023, and the EA made Final.
