NWRC Utah Field Station Staff: Lexi Turano, PhD

Last Modified: July 11, 2024

Alexandra (Lexi) Turano is a biological science technician (wildlife) at the National Wildlife Research Center’s Utah Field Station.

Prior to working as an animal care technician, Lexi completed a postdoctoral research project (in partnership with Dr. Sara Freeman at Utah State University) to systematically quantify monogamous behavior between coyote pair-mates housed at the Utah Field Station. Upon completion of that project, having thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the hardworking Utah Field Station crew and still highly motivated to continue working toward the resolution of ongoing and increasing human-wildlife conflict, Lexi applied to stay on as an animal care technician. Lexi has an academic/research background in behavioral neuroscience and has managed numerous research projects pertaining to animal behavior, endocrinology, and neuroimmunology.

Research Project

The goals of this project are to generate and disseminate ecological information related to both mammalian and avian predator management, particularly aimed at reducing conflicts with livestock, humans, and native prey species.
