Swine: Influenza A Virus Surveillance State Animal Health Official Reporting Dashboard Quick Guide

Last Modified: March 29, 2024

USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) surveys for influenza A virus in swine (IAV-S). The IAV-S dashboard provides State animal health officials with APHIS’ surveillance data. APHIS uses this data to monitor the genetic evolution of endemic influenza A virus, make influenza A virus isolates available for research, develop diagnostic tools, and detect all influenza A viruses.

Overview

The dashboard includes two graphics. The first shows changes in the success rate of virus isolation over fiscal years, including the associated dates for major changes in the IAV-S surveillance program. A description of each change can be found on the right-hand side of the dashboard.

IAV-S surveillance changes and effects on virus isolations

The second graphic filters the same information by virus subtype, specimen type, and age class. It provides more detailed information on the effectiveness of the IAV-S surveillance program using different methods or targeting different groups.
