NAHMS has collected information on antimicrobial use, stewardship, and resistance during many of the NAHMS commodity studies.

NAHMS first started collecting antimicrobial use information and testing fecal samples for the presence of Salmonella and E. coli in the 1992 National Dairy Heifer Evaluation Project. Over the last 10 years, NAHMS has conducted nine studies where antimicrobial use data were collected or fecal samples were tested for antimicrobial resistance for some combination of Salmonella, Campylobacter, E. coli, and Enterococcus.
