Fish Meal and Fish Oil (and Derivatives) Exported to the EU

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce, provides certification for fish meal and fish oil exports* to the European Union (EU). NOAA certifies all* fish meal and fish oil (and derivatives containing no other animal-origin ingredients) exported to the EU, regardless of the intended use (the only exceptions are noted below).

*Exceptions:

  • Products ready for retail sale for consumption by pets for which the importing Border Control Post (BCP) will accept the applicable Regulation 142/2011 (as amended) Chapter 3A, 3B, or 3C certificate. For those products, please select the applicable “Pet Food” IREG page.
  • NOAA is also believed to be working with FDA for FDA to take over from NOAA the certification of various “fish oil” products intended for human consumption.=
