The purpose of these web pages is to improve the way information is provided to the general public, and the veterinary community, regarding product performance by providing pivotal efficacy and safety data used to license the product. These web pages do not apply to diagnostic test kits, allergenic extracts, or autogenous products.
NOTE: There may be no product licensing efficacy or safety data available on this website until after March 8, 2016 due to the phased implementation of this regulation. Currently licensed products will be phased in over a period of 4 years, efficacy and safety data may not be available for review for all licensed products. Data for products that are licensed between September 8, 2015, and March 8, 2016, will be available for viewing within 1 year after licensure. Data for products that are more than 6 months away from licensure as of September 8, 2015, will be available for viewing at the time of licensure. In the event that licensing summaries for some products are not available due to extenuating circumstances, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) may consider extending the time period for submitting summaries for an additional 2 years on a case by case basis.
Precautionary Statements and Disclaimers
Conclusions regarding how effective or safe a vaccine is compared to a similar vaccine should not be made. Differences in animal sources, sexes, hormonal status, animal husbandry practices and environmental conditions and the numbers of animals in some groups may be too limited to allow for meaningful comparisons to other vaccines.
Please consult with a licensed veterinarian for interpretation of data.
All products have been shown to be effective in healthy animals. A protective immune response may not be elicited if animals are incubating an infectious disease, are malnourished or parasitized, are stressed due to shipment or environmental conditions, are otherwise immunocompromised, or the vaccine is not administered in accordance with label directions.
Data summaries may not be used by manufacturers for the purposes of marketing, promotion, or advertising. Only comparative data that have been previously accepted by CVB for use in product inserts may be used as material in promotional or advertising campaigns. In lieu of using data summaries posted on this website, manufacturers should include a statement on promotional and advertising materials referring the user to this CVB website.
While minimal animal testing is critical to proper evaluation of efficacy and safety of biologicals intended for use in all animals, the CVB is committed to and encourages in vitro assays for potency test development as an alternative to the use of animals for testing.
Efficacy and safety data for some products licensed many years ago may not be available for various legitimate reasons. The lack of data for those products should not be misconstrued to meant those products are any less efficacious or less safe than those products for which efficacy and safety data are available.
