WS 2011 Research Needs Assessment
Eighty-six federal employees from 36 states and the District of Columbia responded to the APHIS Wildlife Services National Wildlife Research Center's Research Needs Assessment survey. The most surveys (20) were received from Colorado, where the National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) headquarters is located. The second most surveys (six) came from Maryland, where the Wildlife Services (WS) Operational Support Staff is located. Eighty-three of the federal respondents (97%) were WS employees, including 20 NWRC research scientists, 33 WS State Directors, four WS Assistant State Directors, nine WS managers/executives, 15 WS biologists, one WS District Supervisor, and one WS biological technician. One reply each was received from Veterinary Services, the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
Thirty-one people from 20 states responded to the external survey. Surveys were received from California, Washington state, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, New Hampshire, Michigan, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Seventeen of the non-federal respondents (55%) were employed by state fish & wildlife agencies, and the rest worked for private farms or ranches, universities, or non-government organizations. All but four of the non-federal respondents were managers and executives. Four responses were received from non-federal biologists and research scientists.
