APHIS Seeks Comment on the Proposed Import Market Expansion of Fresh Sweet Potato Root From the Republic of Korea into the United States

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is inviting public comments on a proposal to expand the import market for fresh sweet potato (Ipomoea batatus (L.) root from the Republic of Korea into the entire United States. Sweet potato from the Republic of Korea is currently allowed only into Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. 

Based on the findings of the pest risk analysis, APHIS proposes to allow imports into the entire United States under specific safeguarding measures outlined in the risk management document.

The pest risk analysis will be available for public review in the Federal Register for a 60-day period ending on May 12, 2026. To view the documents and submit comments, go to www.regulations.gov and enter "APHIS 2025-0013" in the search field.
