APHIS Seeks Comment on Proposed Import Market Expansion for Fresh Pineapple from the Philippines and Thailand

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is inviting public comment on a proposal to expand the import markets for fresh pineapple (Ananas comosus) from the Philippines to the entire United States and from Thailand into the entire U.S with updated conditions of entry. Currently, pineapple from the Philippines is permitted only into Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the U.S. North Atlantic regions. Fresh Pineapple from Thailand is permitted into the entire U.S. (except Hawaii) with a phytosanitary treatment, for any variety. 

Based on the findings of the pest risk analysis, APHIS is proposing to allow imports of fresh pineapple from the Philippines and from Thailand to the entire U.S. under specific safeguarding measures outlined in the risk management document.
