In Washington, 136 public-use civilian airports, 318 private airports, and three major military air bases conduct more than one million aircraft operations each year. At the same time, gull and goose populations, which pose the greatest threats to airports, are at record levels. These birds are of particular concern at several of the State's busiest airports. To address these wildlife hazards, WS personnel in Washington contributed 4.546 staff years to provide assistance at 19 civil, and 3 military airports for a total of 22 airports in FY 2010. In addition, technical training was provided at 11 airports for 140 airport personnel.
