Wildlife hazards at airports have become a major concern due to the potential for significant damage to aircraft and the threat posed to public health and safety. To address wildlife hazards at airports, WS personnel in Oklahoma contributed 7.992 staff years to provide assistance at 9 civil, 6 joint use, and 4 military airports for a total of 19 airports in FY 2010. In addition, technical training was provided at 8 airports for 86 airport personnel. To assist with wildlife hazard mitigation on civil and military airports, the Oklahoma WS program is also working with several landfill sites to reduce their attractiveness to gulls, raptors, and blackbirds.
