WS scientists at the National Wildlife Research Center conduct research to understand the nature of wildlife hazards at airports, develop management tools to reduce hazards, and provide airport personnel with information to manage or prevent these hazards. Applying this scientific expertise, the Alabama WS program has provided major airports on the coast and inland with technical assistance, training, and direct operational management. As a result, WS has reduced the presence of wildlife on and around runways by up to 80 percent at these airports.
WS in Alabama contributed 0.777 staff years to assist 2 civil, 5 joint use, and 1 military airports for a total of 8 airports assisted in FY 2010. In addition, technical training was provided at 7 airports for 15 airport personnel.
