Gambian giant pouched rats are active mostly at night Gambian giant pouched rats are gray-brown in color and can reach considerable size, sometimes up to 3 feet in length. Females can reproduce 5-10 litters each with 1-5 young in a single year. Due to their high reproductive potential, adaptability, and broad tolerance of habitats and food types, the species could potentially expand its range dramatically if it reaches the mainland.
Because they are nocturnal, they are likely to not be noticed by people until they have become well established in a new setting.
