In 1992, the North Carolina legislature created the Beaver Damage Control Advisory Board, which established the Beaver Management Assistance Program that is implemented by WS through partnership with landowners, counties, and North Carolina state agencies. Program goals are to optimize beaver management in the State through education, outreach, and assistance to those experiencing beaver damage problems. Activities include participation in classes and workshops, consultations to increase use of pond levelers, exclusionary devices, and other nonlethal techniques. In situations where beaver damage cannot be reduced to tolerable levels, WS personnel remove the involved animals and their dams using humane and environmentally responsible methods.
