Tribal Consultation

In keeping with Executive Order 13175: Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments, APHIS provides opportunities for Tribes to participate in policy development to the greatest extent practicable and permitted by law.  Each Tribe has the opportunity for timely and meaningful government-to-government consultation with APHIS in developing policies that may have Tribal implications.  Such policies that could have substantial direct effects on one or more Indian Tribes, on the relationship between the Federal Government and Indian Tribes, or on the distribution of power and responsibilities between the Federal Government and Indian Tribes.  “Substantial direct effects” means positive, neutral, or negative effects and potential effects that APHIS or the Tribes see as significant.
