Phytophthora ramorum Review

Phytophthora ramorum National Review

National Quality Assurance Program Review

From April - August 2009, a national quality assurance review of the Phytophthora ramorum (P. ramorum) program was conducted as part of the PPQ National Quality Assurance (QA) Program at the direction of the National Plant Board and PPQ Executive Team. The primary goal of this review was to evaluate the programs business practices for strengths and weaknesses, and to identify areas in need of improvement. Program information was collected through three data gathering components. These components included:

  • site visits to California, Connecticut, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington;
  • focus group discussions at the Southern Plant Board meeting in Greenville, SC, and California Oak Mortality Task Force Symposium in Santa Cruz, CA; and
  • interviews and surveys of state and federal program officials.

The information from the QA review, along with several technical working group reports, and recommendations from the P. ramorum working group will influence/guide the comprehensive national program review process scheduled for December 15 and 16, 2009, in Riverdale, Maryland. For additional information you may contact Prakash Hebbar, APHIS National Program Manager, P. ramorum/Black Stem Rust at (301) 851-2228.
