APHIS Opens Hanoi Office

Feb. 5, 2018 - The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi held a ceremony to officially open the APHIS office in Vietnam. U.S. Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink, along with APHIS- International Services Deputy Administrator Cheryle Blakely, formally opened the office. Guests of the ceremony included officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and various representatives from the agricultural sector. In opening the APHIS office, the U.S. continues to solidify an important relationship between the U.S.–Vietnam, supports ongoing growth in bilateral trade, and establishes an APHIS presence to help forge a greater technical relationship with MARD. In 2016, Vietnam was the 10th largest market for U.S. agricultural exports, worth $2.7 billion. U.S. agricultural exports grew more than 1,000 percent during the past 10 years. The United States is the third largest market for Vietnamese fruit, worth $84.5 million in 2016, a significant increase from 2015.
