Equine semen, embryos and cloning tissue

Equine semen originating from Canada does not require a health certificate, import permit or inspection by a port veterinarian. The semen container needs to be clearly labeled as equine semen from Canada.

Conventionally-derived embryos require an import permit, health certificate and veterinary inspection at the land border port or first port of arrival.

Cloned equine embryos from Canada do not require a health certificate, but do require an import permit and will be inspected by an USDA APHIS VS veterinarian at the border or first port of arrival.

Equine embryos, both conventional and cloned, shipped over land must enter through one of the following designated ports of entry for inspection (if required):
