Civil Rights Laws


The following statutes prohibit discrimination in federally assisted programs:

  • Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national religion.
  • Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination on basis of disability.
  • Title IX Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally assisted education programs.
  • Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits discrimination on the basis of age.

Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)

Title 7 CFR Part 15d prohibits discrimination on the basis of:

  • race
  • color
  • religion
  • sex
  • age
  • national origin
  • martial status
  • familial status
  • sexual orientation
  • disability
  • part of an individual's income is derived from any public assistance program
