Petition to Extend Determination of Nonregulated Status for Insect and Herbicide Resistant GE Corn

Petition to Extend Determination of Nonregulated Status for Insect and Herbicide Resistant GE Corn

APHIS preliminarily determined it would extend deregulation to the Syngenta Company’s line of corn genetically engineered for both insect-resistance and glufosinate-ammonium resistance (MZIR098). The extension is based on similarity to Pioneer’s corn (event 4114) and other corn events which the Agency previously reviewed and deregulated.

APHIS prepared a preliminary determination with an accompanying plant pest risk similarity assessment (PPRSA) and a preliminary finding of no significant impact (FONSI). Public comments were accepted from February 17 - March 18, 2016.

On March 23, 2016, APHIS announced  the deregulation extension to this corn line and the availability of the final documents.
