APHIS Livestock Coordination Center

On Friday April 24, APHIS established a National Incident Coordination Center (NICC) to provide direct support to producers whose animals cannot move to market as a result of processing plant closures due to COVID-19.

This coordination will include:

  • Assisting State Veterinarians and producers in helping identify potential alternative markets if a producer is unable to move animals;
  • If necessary, advise and assist on depopulation and disposal methods;
  • Deploy assets of its National Veterinary Stockpile (including captive bolt guns and cartridges, chutes and trailers, and personal protective equipment) as needed; and
  • Secure the services of contractors that can supply additional equipment, personnel, and services.  

Producers needing assistance should begin by contacting their state veterinarian’s office.
