MODEL CERTIFICATE FOR IMPORTS OF RAW MATERIALS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF GELATINE/COLLAGEN INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION (RCG)
Facilities must be approved by APHIS for this certificate prior to endorsement of the certificate. Please contact your Veterinary Services service center for details on how to request required approval and certificate.
In May 2019, the EU clarified that facilities shipping materials processed in any way (other than cutting or cooling), should be sent on the “MODEL CERTIFICATE FOR IMPORTS OF TREATED RAW MATERIALS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF GELATINE/COLLAGEN INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” (TCG) rather than this “MODEL CERTIFICATE FOR IMPORTS OF RAW MATERIALS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF GELATINE/COLLAGEN INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION” (RCG). The EU did request that Member States continue to accept the RCG for materials previously imported with the RCG for a short period to allow exporters to be approved for the TCG under amended requirements. APHIS strongly recommends exporters of processed materials contact their local Veterinary Services service center and transition to the TCG as quickly as possible. In the meantime, APHIS strongly recommends that exporters of processed materials using the RCG have their importers confirm with the relevant Border Inspection Post (BIP) prior to shipment that the consignment will be allowed entry with the RCG. Transition from the RCG to the TCG will generally require new inspection of the facility to verify the processing method and listing of the exporting facility on TRACES.
Select the appropriate version of the certificate based upon the source materials. When preparing the certificate, please do not utilize any terminology, e.g. “dried”, indicating that the product has been processed or treated in any way.
