Comments Open on Proposal to Allow Importation of Fresh Pitahaya Fruit from Ecuador into the United States Under a Systems Approach

Docket No. APHIS-2015-0004

On April 8, 2016, USDA APHIS will begin taking comments on the Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) conducted on fresh pitahaya fruit from Ecuador. The PRA identifies a pest risk and offers a systems approach including the prescribed risk mitigation measures identified in the Risk Management Document (RMD). The RMD supports importation of commercially produced fresh pitahaya fruit from Ecuador into the United States subject to the systems approach which includes pest-free production sites and packinghouses in low-prevalence areas and certification by the national plant protection organization (NPPO) of Ecuador. Both documents are available for public comment and will be open for 60 days starting April 8, 2016. The comment period will close on June 7, 2016.
