APHIS Environmental Assessment finds No Significant Impact from the Biological Control of the Lily Leaf Beetle

https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=APHIS-2017-0025

Summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has prepared a final environmental assessment (EA) regarding the release of three parasitoids, Diaparsis jucunda, Lemophagus errabundus, and Tetrastichus setifer, for the biological control of the lily leaf beetle in the United States. The lily leaf beetle is an aggressive pest of lilies and fritilliaries. The beetle’s range has expanded rapidly in the past decade and further expansion is expected. APHIS experts analyzed the effect releasing these three parasitoids could have on the human environment and determined their release will not have a significant impact. On July 13, 2017 APHIS published an EA in the Federal Register for public review and comment. After reviewing comments received, APHIS prepared the final EA and made the finding of no significant impact. This action will allow the issuance of permits to release the parasitoids.
