APHIS Issues Final Rule On NPIP Provisions

Summary:

The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is issuing a final rule on provisions related to the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP).  NPIP is a cooperative Federal-State-Industry program for controlling certain poultry diseases.

APHIS issued a proposed rule in April to update and clarify several provisions, including those concerning NPIP participation, voting requirements, testing procedures, and standards. Those provisions were voted on and approved at the 2016 biennial conference.  The proposed rule was available for 30 days for review and comment.  APHIS received two comments. The final rule is available here.
