APHIS Announces Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy Risk Designations Notice for Four Regions

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is notifying the public of our intention to recognize Northern Ireland, Croatia, Poland and Scotland as negligible risk for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).  The World Organization for Animal Health’s (OIE) recognizes these regions as being of negligible risk for BSE, and APHIS is taking this action based on our review of supporting information of OIE’s risk designations for these regions. The OIE recommendations regarding each of the above countries can be viewed at http://www.oie.int/animal-health-in-the-world/official-disease-status/bse/list-of-bse-risk-status/

The notice is available for public comment here. APHIS will consider all comments for 60 days before issuing a final notice.
