What procedure
does the WS program use when determining how to
manage wildlife damage?
Each request for assistance is unique regardless
of its complexity. The decision making process
must be predicated on consideration of the
specific biologic, sociocultural, economic,
physical and environmental circumstances
associated with a given wildlife damage problem.
Wildlife Services has adopted a Decision Model
that outlines the way that wildlife damage
management decisions are reached throughout the
program. The Decision Model has the following
steps:
1) Receive request for assistance
2) Assess the problem
3) Evaluate available wildlife damage control
methods
4) Formulate wildlife damage control strategies
5) Provide assistance
6) Monitor and evaluate results of control
actions (revert to step 2 if problem persists)
7) End project (provided that the problem is
resolved)
