Development of Management Strategies to Reduce Wildlife Hazards to Aircraft
PROJECT GOAL: Generate and disseminate applied ecological information related to developing tools and techniques to reduce wildlife hazards to transportation, particularly civil and military aviation.
Objective 1: Evaluate habitat use and foraging strategies of hazardous wildlife on and near airports.
Objective 2: Develop methods and tools to reduce wildlife food, water, and cover attractants on and near airports.
Objective 3: Conduct research in basic wildlife biology and ecology to develop and enhance nonlethal wildlife control methods.
Objective 4: Evaluate the use of avian radars to reduce bird strikes with aircraft.
Objective 5: Investigate the impact of wind farms to wildlife communities and develop methods to reduce negative impacts.
