Regulation will Allow Fresh Cape Gooseberry Imports from Colombia without Cold Treatment

On May 2, 2014, USDA-APHIS published a notice in the Federal Register announcing that effective June 2, 2014, the United States will allow the importation of Cape Gooseberries from Colombia. While USDA previously has allowed the importation of cape gooseberries from Colombia, the U.S. is dropping the cold treatment requirements that were required previously.  The cold treatment had been a required to prevent Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Medfly) but the production areas are now recognized as zones free of this pest.  Importations without cold treatment can begin effective June 2, 2014.
