Ireland - Summary of Requirements for Animals

Ireland is a Member State of the European Union. Bilingual health certificates are available for some commodities/species (see below). If the bilingual certificate for that species or commodity is not listed below, please refer to the English version on the link to the European Union. It is the responsibility of the exporter to obtain a bilingual certificate if it is not listed below.

Bovine Semen

  • Bovine Semen Model 1 - Health certificate for imports into and transits through the EU of bovine semen dispatched from a semen collection center where the semen was collected - April 2015 (pdf 49kb)
    • Bovine Semen Model 1 -  Previous version of Model 1 health certificate may be used until 30 June 2015 if it is issued no later than 1 June 2015

Pets

NOTE:
For animals older than 16 weeks of age, 21 days must elapse from the date of the primary rabies vaccination before a pet is eligible to travel to the EU. A rabies vaccine is considered primary if either:

(1) the animal was vaccinated for the first time.
(2) the animal was vaccinated for the first time after a microchip was implanted, or
(3) vaccination was not carried out within the period of validity of a previous vaccination


Pet dogs, cats and ferrets may either travel into Ireland on an approved airline (click here for more information on approved airlines) OR the owners must apply to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for a “Prior Approval” by faxing or emailing a copy of the endorsed health certificate to the Department within 10 working days prior to travel (click here for more information about the Prior Approval System).

Canine semen
