Animal Health Report

Chapter 1: Significant Animal Health Events in 2010 (pdf)
Part of the APHIS VS mission is to coordinate the response to disease outbreaks and other epidemiological and animal health events that occur in the United States. This chapter documents several important events during 2010.

Chapter 2: Prevention and Preparedness (pdf)
APHIS VS works to protect the Nation's animal health and facilitate safe agricultural trade. This chapter highlights VS programs and activities aimed at disease prevention and preparedness. These include efforts to ensure safe imports and exports, conduct regulatory functions, and prepare for animal health emergencies.

This chapter describes some of the APHIS programs designed to prevent, detect, or manage diseases that threaten the biological and commercial health of U.S. aquaculture, livestock, and poultry industries.

Chapter 4: Diagnostics, Veterinary Biologics, and Disease Reporting (pdf)
This chapter highlights the key 2010 accomplishments of APHIS' National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL), Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB), and the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN). The chapter also describes some of APHIS' disease reporting functions, such as the National Animal Health Reporting System (NAHRS) and the online reporting of equine arboviral diseases.
