OvoControl Receives 2009 Governor's Research Impact Award

NWRC was awarded the 2009 Governor's Award for Research Impact in Natural Resource Management for its role in the development of OvoControl® an oral contraceptive bait for Canada geese, ducks and feral pigeons on February 17, 2009. The award was presented by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter at a special reception at the Governor's mansion. The award ceremony was sponsored by CO-LABS, a consortium of federally funded scientific laboratories, universities, businesses, local governments, and community leaders organized to establish Colorado as a global leader in research, technology, and their commercialization. The award's review panel was impressed with NWRC's careful study of efficacy, toxicity to other species, standards for safe use, and potential unintended environmental consequences prior to the bait's commercialization. Congratulations to Kathleen Fagerstone, Lowell Miller, Christi Yoder, Mike Avery, John Eisemann and many other NWRC staff members who worked on the development of this nonlethal tool!
