WS 2011 Research Needs Assessment

Ranking of Problem Areas

Seventy-six federal employees provided written descriptions of their top three priority research needs with regard to wildlife conflicts. The most commonly cited research need was for new or more effective methods or tools in general, followed by a need to develop new or better tools and/or information to resolve problems involving invasive species, predation, aviation, conflicts in general, miscellaneous problems, natural resource protection, and crop protection.

The high priority research areas of state and federal respondents also included invasive species, wildlife diseases, predation, and a general need for damage management tools or information. That aviation-wildlife strike hazards were less frequently mentioned by state and private respondents probably is due to the fact that most of them are not actively engaged in this area.
