WS 2011 Research Needs Assessment

Background

The mission of USDA APHIS Wildlife Services (WS) is to provide federal leadership and expertise to resolve wildlife conflicts to allow people and wildlife to co-exist.  In support of this mission, the WS National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) applies scientific expertise to the development of practical methods to resolve these problems and to maintain the quality of the environments shared with wildlife (USDA, 2011).

Beginning in 1989, and about every five years thereafter, WS has conducted a national research needs assessment (RNA) (Packham and Connolly 1992; Bruggers et al. 1996, 2002; Clark et al. 2007). These RNAs, along with Congressional Directives, guidance from the WS Deputy Administrator, and stakeholder input, are important in setting WS research priorities and allocating NWRC resources.  This document reports on the results of the most recent WS RNA.
