The
library, established in 1968, supports the information needs of Center
researchers in Fort Collins and at 8 field stations in the United States
as well as the information needs of all Wildlife Services operational
staff in district, state, regional and national offices throughout
the country. Service is also provided to federal libraries, academic
institutions, private companies and the general public.
The library's collection of more than 8,000 monographs reflects the
Center's interest in wildlife damage management. Intensively collected
materials include identification guides, life histories, management
techniques manuals, theses, and conference and seminar proceedings
relating to wildlife species of interest to Center researchers. One
can find large collections of material on deer, elk, antelope,
coyotes, foxes, wolves, snakes, corvids, raptors, rodents, etc. Publications
on pesticide chemistry, toxicology, urban wildlife, threatened and
endangered species, conservation, general biology, and ecology are
also collected. The collection also includes approximately 100 journal
titles and more than 100 videos.

Archives
The NWRC Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) was established to ensure
that Center scientific studies comply with Good Laboratory Practices
(GLP) Standards. GLP Standards also require an archives for storage of
data and records. Thus, the NWRC Archives was initiated in 1990 to
maintain records of research studies and related documents.
Though the archives was initially founded to store GLP study data
and records, historical materials also accumulated. As the collections
of both types of materials grew, the NWRC Archives split into 2 separate
archives—the NWRC Organizational Archives and the Quality Assurance
Unit Archives—though both archives continue to share space. Additionally,
due to a reorganization in 2000, the Records Manager/Archivist became
responsible solely for historical and organizational records, while
the QAU records became the responsibility of QAU staff.
