Wildlife Services Expenditures for the Protection of Resources

Federal and Cooperative Funding to Protect Property

woodchuckEach year, a portion of the Federal funding that is provided to the WS Program by Congress through the Federal budget and appropriations processes is expended to reduce wildlife damage to property.  In some situations, program recipients provide WS with cooperative funding to support very specific program activities to protect their property.  The Property resource category includes business and residential buildings and structures, equipment, vehicles, and machinery, pets and other companion animals, and a myriad of other items of value to people.   WS work to protect property may consist of waterfowl management to protect golf courses, dispersal of vultures to protect vehicles and homes, and provision of recommendations to reduce deer and woodchuck damage to backyard gardens and plantings.
