Wildlife Services Expenditures for the Protection of Resources

Federal and Cooperative Funding to Protect Health and Safety

owlEach year, a portion of the Federal funding that is provided to the WS Program by Congress through the Federal budget and appropriations processes is expended to safeguard health and safety from wildlife-related issues and problems.  In some situations, program recipients provide WS with cooperative funding to support very specific program activities to protect health and safety.  Health and Safety as a resource is associated with the protection of humans or animals from death, damage, or threats.  This category includes human safety protection and response related to wildlife-aircraft collisions, attacks on people by mountain lions and other wildlife species, and surveillance associated with zoonotic and other diseases.
